RAMP Learning Hub
for Volunteers
for Volunteers
The RAMP Learning Hub is designed to help volunteers become familiar with the resources available on ramphub.org.uk and understand how they can be used when supporting someone with the NHS App.
You do not need to memorise the resources, become an NHS App or device expert, or fix someone’s device.
The aim is to help you become comfortable:
finding the right resource → understanding what it is for → using it with someone → recognising the appropriate next step
The Learning Hub follows the same journey and resources that you will find on the main RAMP Navigation Hub.
As you work through the site, you will see the actual RAMP resources together with a short learning narrative explaining how each one works.
Start with the Your NHS App Journey resource.
This provides the overall picture and shows how the different RAMP resources fit together.
The accompanying narrative walks through the journey step by step and helps you understand:
where someone might enter the journey;
which resource may be useful next;
how the different routes connect;
when someone may already be far enough through the journey to go directly to a particular resource.
Next you will explore Getting Started with the NHS App.
This resource helps someone understand their options before beginning setup.
The learning narrative will help you recognise how Getting Started can be used to begin a conversation and establish:
What does the person want to do?
Would they like to work independently or with support?
How would they prefer to access their NHS account?
Before someone starts using the NHS App, it can be useful to establish whether their chosen way of accessing it is ready.
You will explore:
Apple Device Readiness
Android Device Readiness
Web Browser Readiness
For Apple and Android, the readiness checklists use the same six basic checks: unlocking the device, accessing email, receiving text messages, installing apps, using the camera and connecting to the internet.
The narratives explain what each check is looking for, what a volunteer should notice and how to identify the next appropriate step when something gets in the way.
You will then work through the four main RAMP guides.
G1 — Self-Help Guide
Understand how the resource supports someone who wants to work through the process independently.
G2 — Support Guide
Explore how a volunteer, family member or friend can work alongside someone while keeping that person in control.
G3 — Preparation Guide
Understand how preparation can identify things that may need to be in place before progressing further.
G4 — Using the NHS App
Explore how the focus changes once someone has access to their NHS account and wants to carry out tasks such as viewing messages, ordering prescriptions, looking at their health record or using appointments.
Explore some of the common things people may want to do in the NHS App, such as ordering repeat prescriptions, viewing appointments, reading messages and accessing their GP health record.
The Volunteer Learning Pack brings the main RAMP learning resources together in one downloadable document.
It can be used to:
work through the learning away from the website;
print individual sections when only one part of the journey is needed;
revisit a resource before supporting someone;
keep a practical reference alongside the online Learning Hub.
Each section is also designed to work as a stand-alone resource, so volunteers do not need to use the whole pack at once.
